Teatro Verdi

Located in the historic district of Santa Croce The Teatro Verdi, born in the heart of Florence, is the largest Italian theatre in Tuscany. Born as Teatro Pagliano it was inaugurated on September 10, 1854 on the notes of Verdi's opera Il Viscardello (which later became Rigoletto). The theatre, which took the place of a multi-purpose structure (equestrian circus, music hall, open-air amphitheatre) built on the remains of the fourteenth-century Stinche prison, is due to the entrepreneur pharmacist and former baritone Girolamo Pagliano. In over 160 years of history it has always kept intact the characteristicha of being a great popular theater in the city center, open to all kinds of entertainment.
