Literally, a “seller of pulse” (civaie), meaning dry legumes, beans, chickpeas and fava beans, “Il Civaiolo” in reality is much more than a bean store. Nestled within Palazzo Ginori, this historic Florentine store that once sold fodder and hay, today has a timeless quality to it. You will find: 20 types of beans, 10 types of rice, hailing from all parts of the world, and 20 types of flour. Specialities include: Zolfino beans, pink chickpeas from the Valdarno area and spelt from Garfagnana. They also sell a nice selection of spices, salted cod fish, English herring, and Sicilian anchovies.
