In order to fully understand the eclectic and wide-ranging nature of this gallery- which has been housed in Palazzo Lanfredini since 1965- it may be useful to learn more about its founder, Giovanni Conti. He began working at a very young age, first at the Bellini Gallery and then on the conservation of Harold Acton’s collections. On behalf of the heirs, he also made the inventory of the furnishings of Acton’s historic villas. Though particularly fond of Italian Renaissance majolica artwork (on which he published some studies, including the first cataloging of the Bargello collection), he is deeply interested in all fields of antiques. His frequent participation in expert commissions proves his extensive knowledge and professional competence.
