Chicco di grano

Located inside the market in Sant’Ambrogio, it is impossible not to find it: you just have to follow the smell of bread and pizzette (little pizzas) of this stand’s non-stop production. If you stop there at lunch time don’t miss the schiacciata vuota (empty Italian flatbread) or a slice of pizza with mozzarella cheese and tomato or, the best of all, with big pieces of fresh tomatoes. But the real specialities are the coccoli, which are little fried bread dough fritters, eaten with ham and stracchino cheese, since this stand also offers on-the-spot fried typical products (according to an old Florentine tradition, which is today ever more difficult to find).
