Franco Mazzetti and his style secrets
Our interview with the Florentine model and fashion consultant
How did you get involved in fashion?
Having started my career in the world of art and auctions in Florence, everything changed when the company I worked for moved to Milan. I decided to stay in the city and embark on a career in men’s clothing. Today, with 60 editions of Pitti Uomo behind me, I’m celebrating a life packed with stimulating experiences and connections.
How would you describe your style?
Classical and understated. I truly believe in the importance of subtlety and nuance, which I try to combine as harmoni.
An ever-present garment in your winter wardrobe?
A paletot coat. I have several, but I prefer double-breasted versions with box pleat and a martingale belt at the back, a little more than knee length. Elegant, versatile and timeless.
A tailor’s shop where you like to buy clothes?
Sartoria Francesco Guida in Prato. The whole place exudes artisan excellence, with quality both in the tailoring and in the selection of fabrics, many of which are one-off pieces, exquisite and rare, often from vintage collections.
You’re also a connoisseur of cigars. Where did that passion come from?
Ever since I was young I’ve found great pleasure in the strong, intense flavour of the Toscano cigar. Then, a few years ago, I met the owner of EGM, a company that specialises in the manufacture and distribution of Cuban cigars, which I’ve fallen in love with, for their complexity, aromatic richness and well-rounded flavour.
Three ‘trendy’ places in Florence?
Eredi Chiarini, an institution for menswear. Bespoke shoes by Roberto Ugolini. And Procacci, with its truffle sandwiches.
