At the cinema with Alberto
From Federico Fellini's performance to the film Zamora: all the achievements of the Tuscan actor
What was it like playing a legend like Federico Fellini in Permette? Alberto Sordi?
A burden and an honour, as they say. There was no archive material, so I had to imagine what it could be like and together with Edoardo Pesce (Alberto Sordi) we managed to give life to this friendship that lasts beyond the natural human lifetime.
The most enjoyable and most difficult project so far?
The Netflix series Guida Astrologica per Cuori Infranti (Astrological Guide for Broken Hearts) was entertaining and marked the encounter with various colleagues who became dear friends, a rare thing. The most difficult, Hammamet: in a short time I had to learn to play the guitar, because in one scene my character dedicates Lucio Dalla’s Piazza Grande to his father (Craxi, played by Favino).
Zamora, Neri Marcoré’s directorial debut, was released in cinemas in April. What was the experience like?
I was struck by Neri’s respect, both artistic and human, while at the same time being very precise in his directions. Zamora, the name of a great Spanish goalkeeper of the 1930s, is the nickname given to my derided character because he chooses this role at company matches, with terrible results. In the end, he decides to be trained by a former Milan goalkeeper, Giorgio Cavazzoni (Marcoré), who has now fallen into disgrace, to become the champion he never was.
You were born in Lucca, what are your favourite places?
I was born and raised in the historic centre, where I love walking on winter evenings, when my footsteps echo in the silence, while in spring I like to admire the sunset from the city walls.
Where will we see you next?
The second season of Studio Battaglia was also recently released in prime time on Rai 1. The rest is top secret.
