Waiting for the Oscar night 2021
All about the nominations and the Italians (including a Tuscan) in contention for one of the most coveted awards of the film world
The glittering night of the Oscars is approaching. Between Sunday, April 25 and Monday, April 26, starting at 00:15 Italian time, will begin the live broadcast dedicated to one of the most coveted awards in the world of cinema, now in its 93rd edition.
Among the candidates in contention, there are three Italian names: Laura Pausini, already Golden Globe winner, who is trying to win an encore of awards for best song with Io sì, soundtrack of La vita davanti a sé; the Florentine Massimo Cantini Parrini, also already awarded for the costumes of Garrone's Pinocchio with the David di Donatello and Dalia Colli in nomination for the makeup of the same film.
A different edition from the usual, where Netflix increases its presence by lining up 35 nominations (last year there were 24) with Mank - which racks up 10 nominations, including Best Director, Best Picture, Best Actor (Gary Oldman) and Best Supporting Actress (Amanda Seyfried) - and The Trial of the Chicago 7 in the Best Picture list. Best of all, for the first time in nearly a hundred years, two female directors earned nominations in their categories - Chloe Zhao, for Nomadland, and Emerald Fennell, for Promising Young Woman. While Chadwick Boseman, the Afro-American actor died this summer from cancer, earned a posthumous Oscar nomination for his final performance in Ma Rainey's Black Bottom.
