July 19, 2024

The Jazz & Wine Festival illuminates Montalcino

From 23 to 28 July, the city of Brunello hosts the biggest stars of international jazz

From July 23 to 28, Montalcino will host the 27th edition of the Jazz & Wine in Montalcino festival, born out of the collaboration between the well-known Banfi winery, the Rubei family of the Alexanderplatz Jazz Club in Rome and the Municipality of Montalcino.

Frequented by the world's most important artists, Jazz & Wine in Montalcino combines great jazz music and quality wine and stands out as a true model in terms of both organization and artistic proposal. The festival offers itself as a showcase on what the international universe of jazz offers, not disdaining some forays into the world of pop: a mix of languages that wins and convinces consecrating this billboard as one of the most beloved ever.

The curtain on the festival rises on Tuesday, July 23, when in the magical atmosphere of Castello Banfi comes the JANY MCPHERSON TRIO. The Cuban pianist, singer and composer, among the most interesting exponents of jazz pianism in recent years, presents A long way an enthralling show featuring her on piano and vocals in the company of Yoann Serra (drums) and Massimo Moriconi (double bass).

Wednesday, July 24 appointment with the legend: comes the JOHN SCOFIELD / DAVE HOLLAND DUO. Two giants of contemporary jazz cross paths in the duo's unique and compelling dialogue. In the intimate space of Castello Banfi, the audience will have the rare opportunity to sit just a few feet away from Dave Holland's double bass and John Scofield's guitar, letting themselves be carried away by a musical program that, in addition to some of the most classic standards, will give space to original compositions by both.

On Thursday, July 25, the festival moves to the medieval walls of the Montalcino Fortress with a truly exceptional event. On stage EDDIE GOMEZ TRIO with KIND OF BILL, a tribute to Bill Evans in a project conceived by pianist Dado Moroni who, together with bassist Eddie Gomez and drummer Joe La Barbera, will not fail to also offer compositions written by the three amazing protagonists on stage.

The voice and class of one of Italy's most fascinating performers will be the stars of the event on Friday, July 26, when TOSCA will take the stage at the Montalcino Fortress with the show La bella estate. Accompanying her will be her sextet with Giovanna Famulari (cello, voice, piano, percussion), Massimo de Lorenzi (guitar), Luca Scorziello (drums and percussion), Fabia Salvucci (voice and frame drums) and Arabella Rustico (double bass).

A date with music history on Saturday, July 27: ANDY JAMES & JON COWHERD ALL STAR comes to Jazz & Wine. Special guest MINO CINELU. Excellencies of international jazz, who have made music history worldwide, meet in the land of Brunello to give life to a show destined to leave their mark. In Montalcino, Andy James (vocals) takes the stage with an all-number-one band featuring such musicians as Jon Cowherd (piano), John Beasley (piano), John Ellis (woodwinds), Chico Pinheiro (guitar), Doug Weiss (bass) and Allan Mednard (drums). Special guest percussionist Mino Cinelu.

The 27th edition of Jazz & Wine in Montalcino closes with a bang: on Sunday, July 28, AYMÉE NUVIOLA QUINTET feat. Kemuel Roig arrives in the Fortezza Medicea. Winner of several Grammys, Aymée Nuviola singer, musician, songwriter and actress is unanimously regarded as the best exponent of Latin jazz, the only one capable of picking up the legacy of Omara Portuondo and Celia Cruz. Performing with Aymée Nuviola (vocals) are Kemuel Roig (piano), Hilario Bell (drums), Nieger Jose Aguilera (percussion), Lowel Ringer (bass) and Julian Avila (guitar).

Artistic direction of Jazz & Wine in Montalcino is by Eugenio Rubei (Alexanderplatz Jazz Club in Rome, Sound&Image).

All Jazz & Wine in Montalcino performances will begin at 9:45 p.m.
