From Pisa to Florence via Prato and Lucca, here are all the exhibitions not to be missed this winter in Tuscany.
FLORENCE
"Benozzo Gozzoli and the Magi Chapel" will be hosted at Palazzo Medici Riccardi to March 10, 2022. The exhibition is closely linked to the history of the Medici Palace, which houses the marvelous Magi Chapel, one of Benozzo Gozzoli's greatest masterpieces, frescoed on a Medici commission in the late 1550s. Starting with the execution of the Chapel, the exhibition sheds light on the artist and his ties with the Medici family and the city of Florence.
Until April 25, 2022 Villa Bardini hosts the great exhibition Galileo Chini and European Symbolism, curated by Fabio Benzi and promoted by Fondazione CR Firenze and Fondazione Parchi Monumentali Bardini e Peyron. A great exhibition dedicated to the greatest Italian exponent of Art Nouveau, as well as one of the major European artists of Art Nouveau.
Until April 10, 2022 at the Museo Novecento we find the exhibition Monte Verità. Back to nature. Curated by the director of the Museo Novecento Sergio Risaliti, with Nicoletta Mongini and Chiara Gatti and organized by MUS.E, the project retraces the centennial experience of Monte Verità that intertwines the destinies of intellectuals and masters of the 20th century.
Until November 26, 2022, except for temporary exhibitions, Tornabuoni Arte brings to the stage Modern and Contemporary Art. Selected Anthology 2022, an annual appointment that takes form of an exhibition in the two Italian venues of Florence and Milan (from December 16, 2021), and of a volume, the result of a careful selection of works, which highlights the spirit of careful research and refined knowledge that the gallery has matured over time. The exhibition Modern and Contemporary Art. Antologia scelta 2022, set up in the Florentine seat, with over fifty works, is divided into thematic areas.
Contemporary art continues to be the protagonist: until February 27, 2022 Jenny Saville at the Museo Novecento, and Francesco Vezzoli in Piazza della Signoria.
Until April 24, 2022 A misura di bambino. Growing up in ancient Rome. at the Uffizi Gallery. An archaeological exhibition that addresses, in an innovative way, a theme so far unexplored. In a path of over thirty works, in fact, are described different moments of daily life of children at the time of the Roman Empire.
Also at the Uffizi until next March 20, the fantastic creatures of Belgian artist Koen Vanmechelen. 30 installations dedicated to the themes of evolution and hybridization are scattered among the classic masterpieces of the museum.
The Galleria dell'Accademia in Florence opens to the public on Tuesday 15 February 2022 Michelangelo: the bronze bust of Daniele da Volterra, an exhibition curated by Cecilie Hollberg. For the first time all the ancient examples of Michelangelo's bronze busts, attributed to Daniele da Volterra, will be exhibited in a single location, thus dealing with the complex relationship between originals and derivations. The main purpose of the exhibition, which will remain open until June 19, 2022, is to produce the first scientific catalog of the bronze busts attributed to Daniele da Volterra. The comparison between the 9 apparently identical busts has never been undertaken, and will certainly reserve some surprises.
PRATO
At Palazzo Pretorio, until March 27, 2022, the exhibition 'Hi Woman' is on view, featuring the works of 22 international contemporary women artists in dialogue with historicized medieval and Renaissance works from the permanent collection of the Prato museum. "Hi Woman!" is the 'aggressive' greeting that the Archangel Gabriel addresses to the Madonna. The exhibition is presented as the Pop transformation of this debut, projected into contemporaneity.
Until February 23 in the former church of Santo Stefano al Ponte, we find Inside Dalí, an unmissable opportunity to be projected into a mix of cutting-edge technology, images, real artifacts, illusions and allusions. All in perfect symbiosis with the unique universe of the Catalan artist. The immersive digital exhibition, developed with the support of the GALA SALVADOR DALÍ Foundation, is an evocative artistic and multimedia creation that focuses on the life of Salvador Dalí.
LUCCA
The friendship between Carlo Ludovico Ragghianti and the painter, writer and politician Carlo Levi is the focus of the new exhibition of the Fondazione Centro Studi Ragghianti. Curated by Paolo Bolpagni, Daniela Fonti and Antonella Lavorgna, the exhibition is in Lucca to March 20, 2022. The relationship between Ragghianti and Levi was born during the Nazi occupation, through their common political militancy in the Resistance. However, it was not only politics - in the ranks of the Partito d'Azione - that united them, but also the intense confrontation on the issues of contemporary art and a shared sensitivity for the artistic heritage of the country. The exhibition and the catalog offer a testimony, through works of art, letters, documents, photographs and films, of the significance of the friendship between Ragghianti and Levi, also in the light of their cultural formation.
Lucca hosts the exhibition I pittori della Luce. From Caravaggio to Paolini curated by Vittorio Sgarbi. Until October 2, 2022 at the Ex Cavallerizza, on display more than 100 works from major Italian museums and prestigious ecclesiastical collections, private and international. An impossible exhibition, able to tell through the masterpieces of the seventeenth century the role of light in painting by Caravaggio. Among the artists on display: Caravaggio, Pieter Paul Rubens, Pietro Paolini, Jusepe de Ribera, Mattia Preti, Matthias Stomer, Pietro Ricchi, Trophime Bigot, Giovanni Serodine, Giovanni Domenico Lombardi, Orazio Gentileschi and many others.
Andy Warhol and the New Pop this is the title of the exhibition, curated by the Mazzoleni Foundation, hosted at Villa Bertelli in Forte dei Marmi until May 29, 2022. A collection of about 100 works, starting from the most popular and recognized icons in the world, such as Marilyn, Mao and Campbell's, to the rarest and most unobtainable relics such as Michael Jackson's shoes and the Rolling Stones' guitar.
PISA AND SURROUNDINGS
Until April 17, 2022, the Nakamura Keith Haring Collection, in collaboration with the Fondazione Pisa and Palazzo Blu, is presenting at Palazzo Blu in Pisa the exhibition project entitled Keith Haring.
At PALP Palazzo Pretorio in Pontedera - until March 20, 2022 - over 140 works by Andy Warhol tell the story of the most pungent interpreter of mass society, colorful witness of the icons of his time: Andy Warhol. ICONS! Andrew Warhol - a multifaceted artist among the most influential protagonists of the 20th century - was able to transform the fetishes of the American collective imagination into art, anticipating the establishment of the power of mass media. Andy Warhol. ICONS! is the story of the incredible life of a man, character and artist, who changed the connotations of the world of art but also of music, cinema and fashion, which has radically changed every previous aesthetic definition.
