The best restaurants in the islands of Tuscany
Elba, Giglio and Capraia: the top addresses where to eat
To the islands of Tuscany, small paradises of sea (HERE the most beautiful and lesser-known coves of the Tuscan islands) and taste, where it is easy to come across real temples of seafood cuisine. Here they are:
Molo G-Osteria Portuale
Viale Teseo Tesei, 33 - Portoferraio
ph. +39 0565 915024
An old seaside osteria located opposite the shipyard's washing basin; in summer, they eat on the quay. The cuisine is pure Elban and simple: grilled octopus with potatoes and olives, moscardini soup, and penne in barca with clams, egg yolk and parsley; the goat's milk ice cream, made by a local farmer, is interesting. The wine cellar is 90% Elban.
La Taverna dei Poeti
Via Roma, 14 - Capoliveri
ph. +39 0565 968306 – ph. +39 347 6633395
The first slow food presidium in Elba. Paolo Paolini, the restaurant's owner, has taken over La Taverna dei Poeti, a place founded in 1909 by Elisabetta Cardenti, Bettina for everyone, who opened it under the simple name of 'Trattoria', and it was the first restaurant in Capoliveri. The Taverna dei Poeti seats forty in all, with a room and a small, intimate room at the back and, in summer, two tables outside in Via Roma, which, from Capoliveri's main square, leads to the church and to a breathtaking viewpoint over the sea where you can enjoy breathtaking sunsets. The protagonist is tasty cuisine in the wake of tradition, with simple cooking and the use of the freshest raw materials and fish: tuna in a cuttlefish ink crust in a vitamelle sauce with roast potatoes, and fish of the day Livornese style.
Ristorante Capo Nord
La Fenicia, Marciana Marina (LI)
ph. + 39 0565 996983
One of the polar stars of Elba's restaurant scene: tables overlooking the sea on the beautiful Fenicia beach, wooden furnishings, quality raw materials and a spasmodic search for a balance between tradition, innovation, territory and passion. Between the lines of the menu, in the midst of elaborate and innovative first courses, the strength of tradition and simplicity is evident in the Spaghetto with octopus ragout in the manner of Mamma Fillide, a recipe invented by the owner Attilio's mother, which delineates a great bond of affection that starts with the Adriani family, passes through the love for Elba, and goes straight to the heart of the people who come to eat at the Capo Nord restaurant.
Ristorante Calanova - Tenuta delle Ripalte
Ripe, Capoliveri
ph. +39 0565 94211
An enchanting place by the sea, where the aromas and colours of nature create a dream location, a pier that makes it accessible from the sea, this and much more is Ristorante Calanova. Here you can lunch and dine al fresco, in the shade of centuries-old cork trees, savouring Simona and Cristophe's festive cuisine, prepared with the best fish recipes and typical Tuscan dishes, always accompanied by excellent wines. The menu does not forget vegetarian and gluten-free dishes as well as some dishes for children. During the day there is also an exclusive bar service for guests on the beach in front of the restaurant.
Osteria dei Quattro Gatti
Piazza del Mercato 4, Porto Azzurro
ph. +39 320 6011747
In a fine and elegant setting, with attention to detail, a small treasure chest dedicated to the flavours of the sea. The menu is rich, varied, never banal. A pleasant culinary surprise in the heart of Porto Azzurro.
Ristorante Conte Domingo
Baia dell'Innamorata, Capoliveri
ph. +39 0565 968934 - +39 348 4314490
The Conte Domingo restaurant, named after the Spanish nobleman protagonist of the legend of the lover, overlooks the beautiful bay. The Conte Domingo is a typical restaurant, with tables under a vine pergola. As the sun goes down, the atmosphere becomes magical, the colours and scents combine with the special taste of our predominantly fresh fish dishes. Let Fausto's experience and friendliness guide you in choosing the menu that will make your dinner special in a romantic setting.
Ristorante La Vecchia Pergola
Via Thaon de Revel, 31
ph. +39 0564 809080
An inimitable family management for a sea-flavoured place that is a true Giglio cult. A single dining room and a terrace, with a view of both the village and the port, where you can sample seafood delicacies.
Ristorante da Santi
Via Santa Maria 3 - Giglio Castello
ph. +39 0564 806188
With a magnificent terrace overlooking the Gulf of Campese and the island of Montecristo, an unforgettable setting that right in the centre serves tasty, authentic seafood dishes, such as tagliolini with lobster and grilled vegetables and fish rolls. Among the desserts: the croccantino (semifreddo with hot chocolate).
Il Carabottino
Via Dè Mari, 28
ph. +39 0586 905037
Fish of the day (the fish is bought directly from the fishermen) and few frills for a restaurant that is definitely worth a visit. The menu includes lesser-known fish such as sanpietro, barracuda or tombarello in oil, all of which are home-produced, also because the owner does not throw away anything from the catch of the day, including fish roe, entrails and liver. A convivial place where you must spend at least one evening of your stay.
