The best cafes and pastry shops of Versilia
A itinerary to start alright the day
There are people who wake up early in the morning to fully enjoy the day on the beach. And people who, instead, do not wake up before noon after a night spent in one of the many clubs or pubs of Versilia. They all have one wish in common: to start the day well. With a good coffee and, according to personal tastes, a croissant or something savory. So get ready with your bike and follow us through this little tour in search for the best cafes of Versilia.
In Forte dei Marmi, the Caffè Morin (5, Via Caio Duilio) is one of the historical cafes in the area: located in the exclusive district of Roma Imperiale, few dozens of meters from the Capannina and the sea promenade, it is a symbol of tradition and elegance. Ask for a ‘cappuccino e brioche’ and sit in the cozy veranda to look at the daily newspapers. With no hurry, this is the ideal place to relax (at least in the morning; as for the evening, that’s a different story).
Another place is Caffè Principe, in the famous Piazza del Fortino: a very central location for a café that is part of the history of Forte dei Marmi, and which offers. among other things, an excellent coffee and a wide selection of pastries and savory pieces.
Another pastry shops is Caffè Soldi (5, Via Roma), one of the most famous and historic places in Versilia: apart from its croissants, don’t forget to taste its small pastries with fresh fruit, really a must-try!
Just a few step away , the Caffè Il Giardino (44, Via Stagi Stagio). Always very crowded, it is one of the most favorite places among young people to have breakfast late in the morning: do not miss its croissants and filled savory pastries.
Finally, the Caffè Sambo (Via IV Novembre): surrounded by the most famous boutiques in the centre, it offers a wide selection of coffee blends.
Every town in Versilia has its best –also unknown sometimes- places to have breakfast. In Viareggio, a not-to-miss pastry shop in the market area is Pasticceria Patalani (183, Via Zanardelli). Since 1996, it is a reference place where to taste hand-made sweet or savory pastries or, if you want, a hot chocolate, choosing between the many sweet pastries, croissants and biscuits.
Then the Nilo’s (662, Via Fratti), which offers a wide choice of hand-made desserts, with a lovely corner in front of the pinewood where to taste the products of coffee brand Illy. This shop also sells the exquisite products of famous brands like Caffarel, Ferrari, Lindt, Perugina, Streglio, Maina, Condorelli, Flamigni and Venchi.
And then the Pasticceria Puccinelli (52, Via Amerigo Vespucci) and the historical Caffè Fappani on the promenade.
