Secret Florence returns from 10 to 23 June 2021

Nine days of contemporary performances to discover an unprecedented Florence

From June 10 to 23, the sixth edition of Secret Florence returns, nine days of new performances that rewrite the city in the name of contemporary.

Secret Florence is the strategic project of the Florentine Summer dedicated to the artistic sign of the contemporary language and realized by the five realities of international scope, active in the urban area of Florence: Fabbrica Europa, Lo schermo dell'arte, Musicus Concentus, Tempo Reale and Centro Nazionale di Produzione della Danza Virgilio Sieni.
"It is with great pleasure that we welcome back Secret Florence, one of the leading festivals of the Florentine Summer that for six years now has been opening the most secret places and treasure chests of the city to visitors with high-level performances. After a year of transition, with the review organized in a reduced form at the Parco delle Cascine, Secret Florence fills this year also other places, from Piazza Santa Croce to San Firenze, from Carmine to PIA, from Compagnia to Villa Strozzi, from PARC to Sferisterio, for an edition that will involve the most diverse audiences," announced the Councillor for Culture Tommaso Sacchi.

A series of scenic spaces, mostly new, where performances of dance, music, art and cinema (all with free admission) dialogue with the landscape and with the architectural and sound structures of the various places. The festival opens with visions of Swinging London from A Bigger Splash, Jack Hazan's cult biopic from 1974.

The charm of this ancient but still current game is shown through two walks in the urban spaces that in the past were the setting for the game, an exhibition in Piazza Santa Croce with the best athletes who still practice it and the challenge between the four historic districts of Florence at the Sferisterio delle Cascine.

The ancient walls of the Cloister of the Convent of the Carmine will welcome the piano solo of the Belgian composer and performer Wim Mertens, who will retrace 40 years of success in his concert proposed by Musicus Concentus. Central will be the theme of care and
connection with the environment and the landscape will be a central theme in Caro Mondo, the program of the Centro Nazionale di Produzione della Danza Virgilio Sieni which, on June 18, in the indoor and outdoor spaces of PIA Palazzina Indiano Arte, will offer an unusual look at the Monumental Park of the Cascine and the banks of the Arno, animating it with performances, exhibitions and installations. And then it will give way to the music of research proposed by Tempo Reale on the Terrace of Villa Strozzi in a three-day open-air event entitled Aria (21-23 June).
