Roberto Benigni Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement
The Venice Film Festival rewards the genius and the work of the most famous Tuscan actor in the world
After 9 years of foreign names and a series of editions with two Golden Lions for Lifetime Achievement, the Venice Film Festival returns to award an Italian and one and only one winner of this prestigious prize: Roberto Benigni.
The decision has been taken by the Board of Directors of the Biennale di Venezia, which adopted the proposal of Alberto Barbera, director of the Festival.
The oldest film festival in the world, which this year blows out 78 candles, rewards the irreverent and deep genius of the most famous Tuscan actor, screenwriter and director in the world, who immediately commented the news with words full of emotion: "My heart is full of joy and gratitude. It is an immense honor to receive such a high recognition towards my work from the Venice International Film Festival."
An award that coincides precisely in the year of the 700th anniversary of the death of Dante, of which Benigni is the most beloved popularizer, and which is added to a long list, including the famous Oscar for Best Actor won in 1999 with Life is Beautiful.
