The opening concert of the new auditorium of the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, the Sala Zubin Mehta, planned for December 21 at 6pm with the presence of Sergio Mattarella, will be repeated for the city of Florence in the following day, December 22 at 8pm.
Durinf the two evenings will be the Messa a quattro voci (Messa di Gloria), by Luca Francesconi, the world premiere of Per lo corpo luce - 2021, inspired by the "Divine Comedy" and Anton Bruckner's Te Deum in C major for solo choir and orchestra. The two concerts conducted by maestro Zubin Mehta at the head of the Choir and Orchestra of the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino. The soloists in the various performances are Freddie De Tommaso, Mattia Olivieri, Elisabet Strid, Marie-Claude Chappuis, Franz Josef Selig. The Choir is directed by Lorenzo Fratini.
On December 23, again in the Sala Mehta, the first performance of Ludwing van Beethoven's opera Fidelio will be staged, followed by replica performances on December 28, 30 and January 2 at 3:30 pm. The performances of January 5 and 7 at 8 pm are cancelled. Maestro Mehta conducts, with Matthias Hartmann directing. The cast includes tenor Klaus Florian Vogt as Florestan and soprano Lise Davidsen as Leonore, Tomasz Konieczny as Don Pizarro.
Pereira, the supervisor, informs that although the works in the Auditorium are nearing completion, unfortunately there is a slight delay in the completion of the orchestra pit which will not allow the performance of Fidelio. However, the orchestra pit will be fully operational for the performance, on January 22, 2022, of Luigi Cherubini's opera, Lo sposo di tre e marito di nessuna, conducted by Diego Fasolis and directed by Cesare Lievi.
The season will also include two piano concerts in collaboration with the Amici della Musica Firenze: the concert on February 13, 2022 with Daniil Trifonov and Sergei Babayan, and the one on March 21 with Grigory Sokolov.
At the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, the concert with Zubin Mehta and Maurizio Pollini will be presented on January 19 with an important poster featuring Franz Schubert's Symphony no. 1, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's piano concerto k595 and Franz Joseph Haydn's Symphony no. 104. It is also confirmed an "off-schedule" concert by pianist Lang Lang on January 9, with a performance of Bach's Goldberg Variations, Martha Argerich at the piano.
The performance of Madama Butterfly has been moved from December 22 to December 27, in order to allow the performance on December 22 of the replica of the symphonic-choral concert inaugurating the Sala Mehta Hall.
