Magic at Palazzo Strozzi with the illuminations by Marinella Senatore

L'opera di luce 'We Rise by Lifting Others' fino al 7 febbraio 2021

The magnificent courtyard of Palazzo Strozzi is illuminated with new light thanks to the magnificent site-specific project by visual-artist Marinella Senatore.
The site-specific project, from 3 December 2020 to 7 February 2021, curated by Arturo Galansino, general director of the Fondazione Palazzo Strozzi, consists of a large installation inspired by the illuminations of the popular tradition of southern Italy, with phrases inspired by reflections on the concepts of emancipation, inclusion and participation, and a programme of participatory workshops focusing on the idea of social activation and community building through performance practice.  
 
Created specifically for Palazzo Strozzi, the installation for the courtyard, over ten metres high and consisting of hundreds of LED lights, invades the Renaissance proportions of the palazzo. 
Produced by the artist in collaboration with artisans from Puglia, the luminaries are characteristic of the artist's practice because of their social value: an ephemeral structure that creates a space for socializing.
"I imagine my works as fluid containers conceived taking into account the specific 'environment' in which they develop and based on a potentially infinite inclusion of the elements at stake," says Marinella Senatore. "Art is for me a horizontal platform on which different but equally valuable elements generate an energetic movement and therefore a shared narrative".
 
The installation is open to the public free of charge in the Courtyard of Palazzo Strozzi every day from 9.00 to 20.00. NOT TO BE MISSED.
