La Democrazia del corpo 2022 at Cango of Firenze
From 8 October the new edition of the dance review created by Virgilio Sieni
Marco D'Agostin and Cristina Kristal Rizzo present the premiere of the new works created following the Bando Abitante '21 as well as the other presences, the young choreographer Stefania Tansini and the brand new Collective Giulio and Jari, show what is new. Among the internationals, Mette Ingvartsen and Eszter Salomon bring to the stage the profound questions on the detail of a body placed on the intimate threshold of experience, while the new director of the legendary Tanztheater Wuppertal Pina Bausch company, Boris Charmatz, powerfully returns to show us the playful ways of being of the sapiens. Annamaria Ajmone collects and exposes the fragments of her animistic gesture in a piece that intends to accompany us to places dear to the flavour of the earth. Michele Rizzo delves into the ritual of the repeated step towards forms of possession and Adi Boutrous envelops bodies in neighbourly gestures that seem to allude to the construction of a city.
The Compagnia Virgilio Sieni once again turns to the dance step to see if it is still possible to find common paths with the other inhabitants of the planet. Moreover, La Democrazia del corpo is enriched by the hospitality of Lo Schermo dell'arte - Festival of cinema and contemporary art, which proposes the prestigious presence of Rosa Barba, and of Radio Papesse for the 4th edition of Lucia Festival - Storie audio dal mondo.
The Democracy of the Body proposes a cycle of visions intended as excursions in the body and on the body. The performances and hospitality of this edition will give rise to a context of experiences that seek in the other an economy not separated from the body and fatigue, where the public's gaze participates in the founding themes of inhabiting the world.
The dance performance is here given as a tale of journeys and returns, restances and walks, restoring with the gesture a way of practising life. This year's edition seeks dialoguing paths between artists who operate in a world that strongly demands their listening.
Democracy of the Body opens on Saturday 8 October with Marco D'Agostin who presents the world premiere of GLI ANNI (repeated on Sunday). Marta Ciappina, a unique dancer on the Italian scene in terms of artistic itinerary and technical peculiarities, measures herself with the forms of a generational biographical tale to weave a journey that shuttles between present and past, in a weave of comings and goings that blurs stories, songs, memories.
