JULY
From the 9th to the 12th, Aurora, Nature and Spirit Festival, in Pienza (Siena). From the 15th to the 19th, Mercantia Street Theatre Festival, in Certaldo Alto (Florence). In Monteriggioni (Siena) the famous Medieval Festival from the 3rd to the 5th and from the 10th to the 12th. From the 18th of July to the 2nd of August in Aquilea (Lucca) The Soup Festival.
AUGUST
From the 1st to the 5th, Tortelli and Wild Boar Festival in Montepescali (Grosseto). From the 4th to the 10th of August (St. Lawrence’s Feast Day), Calici di Stelle (info www.movimentoturismovino.it). From the 13th to the 16th, Montepulciano (Siena), in Piazza Grande, one of the most famous examples of popular theatre, the Bruscello, starting at 9:30 p.m. The Sunday after the Feast of the Assumption in Colonnata (Massa Carrara) Lard Festival. On the 16th, the horse race Palio of the Assumption in Siena. On the 3rd and 4th Sunday of the month in Volterra (Pisa), knights, flag throwers, musicians and jesters at the festival Volterra A.D.1398. On the 24th and 25th San Genesio Feast in Villafranca in Lunigiana. On the last Sunday in Montepulciano (Siena) Bravio delle Botti Festival.
SEPTEMBER
On the first Sunday in Volterra (Pisa) in occasion of the Astiludio, the famous flag throwers of Volterra. Still on the 6th the Joust of the Saracen in Arezzo (also called ‘of the Virgin Mary’ to distinguish it from the one of San Donato, on the 20th of June). On the third Sunday of September, Benvenuta Vendemmia: wine cellars will be opened to the public, with Sommelier-guided tasting events (www.movimentoturismovino.it). From the 9th tot the 13th in Capalbio (Grosseto) the 50th anniversary of the Wild Boar Festival (ph. 0564 896611).
