The must-see events in Florence

Sacred and profane are mixed in and around Florence for the long Easter weekend in 2015.

At the gates of Florence, Grassina, Friday, March 25 every year for seventy years back at 20.45 the Historical Commemoration of the Passion of Christ, with the new scene in Piazza Umberto I and its 500 participants. Seats numbered seats 15 euro; standing room side parade 4 €. Tickets are also on sale online on www.catgrassina.org.

On Sunday Easter Sunday each year Florence celebrates it in a very special way, with the explosion of the cart a tradition born about 350 years ago. The wooden wagon decorated, also called the "Brindellone", was released the first time in 1622. A form of three-storey high tower, is pulled by two oxen adorned with garlands from Piazzale del Prato to Piazza del Duomo in the space that is located between the Baptistery and the Cathedral and at 11 a dove, which is nothing but a rocket from the appearance of a white pigeon, ignites the fireworks contained in the wagon.

Do not miss the extraordinary openings of the Florentine civic museums for Easter and Monday. Palazzo Vecchio will be open both days and on the occasion of the Easter holidays, from March 25, will anticipate the start of the extraordinary up to 23.
The Novecento museum and Santa Maria Novella museum will open at Easter and on the Monday, while the Stefano Bardini Museum, the Brancacci Chapel, Fondazione Salvatore Romano and the Museo del Bigallo will be open on Easter Monday but not at Easter.
