Donne in Equilibrio, the Salvatore Ferragamo Museum's new exhibition
From May 20, 2022 to April 18, 2023, a grand tribute to Wanda Miletti Ferragamo
"I had never worked before in my life so I didn't know where to start, moreover, I had no training whatsoever to do it. Until then I had taken care of the house and the children, which was what education was limited to for women in my era. Now the family and the business had only one boss, which was myself. It was all a challenge to achieve the balance between the responsibility of raising children and at the same time learning my new role in the company. It was almost a sleight of hand that I became an expert at. I was trying to focus on a new product line, while two seconds later I had to respond to all the demands of my six children. How would I like to be remembered? Most of all as a mom, a mom lent to entrepreneurship," Wanda Ferragamo
The exhibition Women in Balance, a tribute to Wanda Miletti Ferragamo who, from 1960 until her death in 2018, was the visionary and solid guide of the Salvatore Ferragamo fashion house, opened today at the Salvatore Ferragamo Museum in Florence.
In August 1960, upon the death of her husband Salvatore, Wanda made a cultural choice, in the broadest sense of the term, and decided to pick up his entrepreneurial legacy to transform a women's handcrafted shoe workshop into a fashion house where her children could give continuity to Salvatore's great dedication, innovation and creativity.
The exhibition aims to introduce the multifaceted and unique essence of Wanda Ferragamo and at the same time, as she would have wished, to tell the story of other women who, in the late 1950s and early 1960s, combined the affirmation of their personalities and professionalism with family affections.
The focus is on the Italian reality after World War II, a time when many important social transformations mature and where a qualified female presence is observed.
