Domingo in Florence on 2 and 5 October 2021 at Teatro del Maggio
The famous tenor returns to the Maggio Musicale for the last two performances of the new production of Traviata
Plácido Domingo arrives at the Teatro del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino for the last two performances of Verdi's La Traviata, in the role of Giorgio Germont, on October 2 at 6 p.m. and October 5, 2021 at 8 p.m. He will be conducted by maestro Zubin Mehta and directed by Davide Livermore.
Domingo returns to the Maggio after Nabucco in October 2020. During a break from rehearsals in recent days, he visited the historic archive of the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, "a place of treasures and beauty", he said, "happy to be back singing at the Maggio and in Florence, this beautiful city".
On a break from rehearsals, he reviewed the photos, sketches and press clippings of Puccini's Turandot, which he sang in 1971 under the direction of Georges Prêtre and directed by Pierluigi Pizzi and which marked his debut in Florence. He let himself go to the memories of that production and to the intense and affectionate ones that bind him to maestro Zubin Mehta with whom he has established friendship and professional consuetudine: "It's 53 years since we worked together for the first time, that is since we recorded Il trovatore".
