City of Flowers in the Sky
The daytime fireworks by the artist Cai Guo-Qiang to present his exhibition at the Uffizi
Sunday 18 November 2018 at 16.00 a truly unusual show will color the sky of Florence. The contemporary artist Cai Guo-Qiang will perform City of Flowers in the Sky, an explosion of diurnal fireworks that introduces Flora Commedia: Cai Guo-Qiang at the Uffizi, the solo exhibition of Cai Guo-Qiang that will open on 20 November at the Uffizi Galleries, until 17 February 2019.
In about ten minutes, almost 50 thousand fireworks "will blossom" against the backdrop of the sky of Florence, cradle of the Renaissance also known as Florentia or "city of flowers".
A pyrotechnic work inspired by the Spring of Botticelli, composed of a prelude and six acts: spring thunder and, later, god of the West wind and goddess of the Earth, Birth of Flora, Fall of Venus, The Three Graces, Spiritual Garden and red lily.
