Christmas lights up in Via de' Tornabuoni
New lights light up the glamorous shopping street again this year
The lighting of Via de' Tornabuoni officially kicks off the Christmas celebrations. It's a well-established tradition for the famous Florentine shopping street, which returns to light up again this year.
Via Tornabuoni, a symbol throughout the world of high fashion and luxury, can count on a suitable Christmas attire to serve as a backdrop for the strolls and shopping of Florentines and tourists alike. Seventy-one 3-meter-high spiral cypress trees have been placed along the street, each adorned with 1,000 LED lights and with corten potholders decorated with the fleur-de-lis symbol of Florence. Ideally closing this sort of “tree-lined avenue” is the large Christmas fir tree donated by the Florentine Confcommercio, 7 meters high at the foot of the Column of Justice that has towered in Piazza Santa Trinita since 1565.
In addition to Via de' Tornabuoni and the surrounding area, the air of Christmas also touches Piazza Santa Croce, where we find one of the most beautiful Christmas markets in Tuscany, the Weihnachtsmarkt, until December 22, and many other initiatives that light up the city.
