Carrying a Cloud, Gabriele Picco brings his dreamlike poetics to Florence's Gallery Hotel Art
A journey between dream and reality, on display until October 24, 2025
Florence's Gallery Hotel Art, known for its constant dialogue with contemporary art, hosts Gabriele Picco's new exhibition, Carrying a Cloud, a journey between dream and reality, on display through Oct. 24.
Artist and writer Gabriele Picco, known for his works charged with irony and symbolism, explores the theme of the cloud as an element suspended between the real and the unreal. An icon that recalls art history, from Renaissance skies to Magritte's surreal visions, and which Picco reinterprets through sculptures, paintings and installations with a strong visual impact.

Among the most striking works in the exhibition is Nuvola, a sculpture featuring a 1964 Fiat 500 carrying a cloud of impossible dimensions on its roof rack. The work evokes a nostalgic Italy, that of the economic boom, filled with collective dreams and hopes for the future. The exhibition also includes the new series of paintings Cieli Bucati, in which delicate clouds stand out against chromatically changing horizons. The perforated canvas transforms the pictorial space into a window to new dimensions, evoking Lucio Fontana's experiments and Picco's own literary surrealism.
In Picco's world, clouds do not just float: they must be tamed. Here then is the figure of the cloud tamer, a surreal conductor composing a symphony of dreams. And then Paint Your Life, where a small man with a head-palette seems to suggest painting his life with personal colors and desires.
The exhibition, curated by Valentina Ciarallo, is enriched by a series of unpublished drawings inspired by pop culture and cartoons, offering a poetic and evocative reflection on the relationship between art, reality and imagination.
