Carnival in Tuscany

The most magical moment of the year is approaching, that of Carnival, and Tuscany dresses up festively for this occasion. Discover with us the unmissable!

Viareggio Carnival
Viareggio (Lucca) from February 1st to 25th and the big night of February 28th: Absolute novelty: the night parade on Thursday, February 20th, to celebrate Shrove Thursday.

Foiano delle Chaiana Carnival
Foiano della Chiana (Arezzo) 2/9, 16/23 February and 1 March: the oldest in Italy and second for grandeur to that of Viareggio. The unmissable parades start at 12.

Carnival of San Gimignano
San Gimignano (Siena) from 2 to 23 February: floats through the streets of the famous medieval village with its beautiful towers, in the heart of the Tuscan countryside from 3.30 pm.

Medieval Carnival
Calenzano (Florence) February 26th: inside the ancient walls of the castle of Calenzano starts at 2 p.m. with a historical procession of 500 participants and musicians from Val Marina (duels, flag wavers, ladies, soldiers and waders).

Historical Carnival
Bibbiena (Arezzo) 22, 23, 25 February 2020: a leap in time, to 1337, Sunday 9 suggestive Mass in medieval costume followed by a show of ancient dances, flag wavers. Shrove Tuesday, February 25, is celebrated the day of the Mea with the final burning of the "Bello Pomo".

Carnival and Cosplay
Stia - Pratovecchio (Arezzo) From 16 to 23 February: in Piazza Tanucci from 15 to 18. Themed masked parade.

Carnival of Cecina
Cecina (Livorno) 2 and 9 February. Eight floats parade through the streets of the town from 14.00 (shows and activities for children).

Carnevalino of Sant'Ippolito
Sant'Ippolito di Vernio (Prato), 15 February: traditional distribution of pasta with tuna, bread with anchovies and wine in the village square. Games and Animations for children by the Herring Company.
