Cancelled the two Palii di Siena. This hasn't happened since the Second World War
For the first time in 70 years, the most famous folkloristic event in Italy will not take place
No Palii di Siena this year. After a first decision to slide them, comes the news of the cancellation of both races, the Palio della Madonna di Provenzano, historically run on July 2, and the Palio della Madonna Assunta on August 16. It hadn't happened for 70 years. In recent history only the Second World War had succeeded in stopping Italy's most beloved and followed folkloristic event, suspended from 1940 to 1944. A painful but inevitable decision, given the impossibility to guarantee the distance in the large audience, prescribed by the regulations against the Coronovirus.
