Art, concerts, shows and good food. Here are the events not to be missed this week in and around Florence.
The UniCredit Firenze Open, the tournament that brings great tennis back to Florence after 28 years and attracts the strongest players from Italy and beyond, will be played at Palazzo Wanny from 10 to 16 October. The most eagerly awaited players are Matteo Berrettini, Lorenzo Musetti and Lorenzo Sonego who, together with foreign stars Felix Auger-Aliassime and Maxime Cressy, make for a high-level roster of participants.
Saturday 15 and Sunday 16 October sees the return of the FAI Autumn Days, the great autumn event that the FAI - Fondo per l'Ambiente Italiano ETS dedicates to Italy's cultural heritage and landscape. Once again in this edition, the volunteers of the Florence Delegation will make their energy and enthusiasm available to open up to the public special places, selected because they deserve to be known and enhanced and all of which are not usually open to visitors, where visits will be proposed that will allow participants to grasp the splendour of the territory that surrounds us. A beneficial immersion in art, history and nature and also a valuable opportunity to learn more about FAI's mission and to become aware, once again, of Italy's immense and varied cultural and environmental heritage.
WILLIAM SHAKESPEARE'S TWELFTH NIGHT AT THE TEATRO DELLA PERGOLA
From 11 to 20 October 2022 in national premiere in the Saloncino 'Paolo Poli' of the Teatro della Pergola Pier Paolo Pacini directs William Shakespeare's Twelfth Night in Orazio Costa's translation, with an adaptation by Filippo Gentili. Composed circa 1600, it revolves around the shipwreck in imaginary Illyria of the twins Viola and Sebastiano and the adventures arising from the male disguise of the maiden who, under the name of Cesario, becomes a pageboy of Duke Orsino. Elegant and full of grace, the play draws the spectator into its magical and enchanted atmosphere, in which the fiercest contrasts are harmoniously composed.
THE LEGACY OF WOMEN: ARTIST INVASION'S WOMEN BALANCERS ON SHOW IN FIVE VENUES IN FLORENCE
Women in balance in life: Equilibriste is the project devised by the artists of Artist Invasion, which includes an exhibition in five venues in Florence from 15 to 29 October. The artists were joined by people whose works were selected through an international call and joined the project from Italy, Great Britain, Finland and Ukraine, for a total of 21 artists and around 50 works on show. The widespread exhibition is part of the festival L'Eredità delle Donne, Off section, 5th edition 2022, with special events specially designed for 21-22-23 October.
ARTKOLORING: PAINTING THE OLD PALACE WITH MICKEY MOUSE'S COLOURIST
On Sunday 16 October at 10 a.m. and 11.30 a.m. MUS.E proposes a workshop with Max Monteduro, art director, graphic designer and colourist with experience with Disney, Marvel, Panini and others, during which he will explain to children how best to interpret the motifs of Florentine architecture on paper. During the workshop Max Monteduro will explain what colour is, its characteristics, its symbolic and practical value by experimenting with pastels how to match colours on reproductions of details of the architecture of Palazzo della Signoria and the main monuments in the centre of Florence, just like in a colouring book, exploring and colouring historical architecture in a new way.
SCENES WITH GIRLS BY MIRIAM BATTYE ON STAGE AT THE RIDOTTO OF THE PUCCINI THEATRE
On Thursday 13 October 2022, at 9.30 p.m., Miriam Battye's play Scenes with girls is on stage at the Ridotto of the Puccini Theatre. A flat and two girls looking out for each other. Lou and Tosh have no intention of giving in to a pattern of life that someone else seems to have already decided for them. They have their friendship and that is enough.
EDOARDO FERRARIO'S SANITARY DICTATOR AT THE PUCCINI THEATRE
Sunday 16 October 2022, at 9 pm, by popular demand Edoardo Ferrario returns to perform live with his stand-up comedy show Il Dittatore Sanitario at the Puccini Theatre. The show has no illusions about solving the problems of our uncertain times, but at least it puts them on the desk. The ticket price includes a patient zero confession, for a show that makes you laugh, but also genuflect.
THE VERY BEST OF JOHN WILLIAMS, K&K PHILHARMONIC IN CONCERT AT THE TEATRO VERDI
From "Star Wars" to "Harry Potter", from "Schindler's List" to "Indiana Jones", from "Superman" to "Jurassic Park": a musical journey into the myth of John Williams. The best repertoire of the film music genius lands for the first time in Italy with a 70-piece orchestra, the K&K Philharmonic, conducted by Matthias G. Kendliger. A highly anticipated tour that kicks off on Saturday 15 October 2022, at 8.45 pm, at the Teatro Verdi.
A JAZZ SUPREME 2022
On Friday 14 October 2022, at 9.15 p.m., A Jazz Supreme returns, the festival that offers the best of contemporary jazz. This sixth edition will host on the stage of the Sala Vanni in Piazza del Carmine six concerts by Italian and international artists, historical formations and new productions, which will delight all jazz music lovers (and not only).To open the review the concert of Jazzasonic, the idea of the formation was born thanks to Italia Jazz Club.
GIULIETTA E ROMEO AT TEATRO VERDI
The Verdi playbill starts on Thursday 13 October with the dance performance Giulietta e Romeo, starring Carlotta Puddu as Juliet and Paolo Barbonaglia as Romeo.
